Our story
Two people, a lot of tea, and a shelf that kept filling up.
The Mitti Tales is a husband-and-wife team in Bengaluru. It started with a few mugs we couldn’t stop buying for ourselves, and friends who kept asking where they came from.
Where the pieces come from
We don’t make these pieces ourselves. We choose them from a ceramics maker in Khurja, the pottery town in Uttar Pradesh, whose painting we fell for: blueberries on blue gingham, cherries scattered across a cream plate, a panda asleep in the bottom of a bowl. The pieces are painted by hand, so no two are quite identical — a stripe sits a little wider, a cherry leans a little further. We think that’s the good part.
Why we sell the slow way
We sell through this site, on Instagram and over WhatsApp. You can put an order together and pay for it here in a minute. But if you’d rather ask first, the checkout lets you place your order without paying, and we’ll message you about the pieces, the colours and how they reach you before anything is charged. We’d rather you asked than guessed.
What you can count on
-
Two real people
A husband-and-wife team in Bengaluru. When you message, you reach us — not a call centre.

Ask before you order
How a piece looks in daylight, what goes with what, whether it’ll make a good gift: message us and we’ll tell you honestly.
-
Every order is a conversation
Pay at the checkout if you know what you want. If you’d rather talk first, say so and we’ll message you before you pay a rupee.
This website, honestly
Most people who find this page have seen us on Instagram or heard about us from a friend, and just want to check we’re real before sending a message. We are. If you’ve read this far, the easiest next step is to say hello.
